LOCATION: The Family House is located in the northern Serengeti, a few miles from the Mara River.
SETTING: At the foot of the iconic Kogakuria Kopjes with sweeping views out over the northern Serengeti.
ACCOMMODATION: Mkombe’s House sleeps up to 10 comfortably (four adults, six children). In front there are two open-fronted, double/twin rooms (can be zipped closed), and connected to them but off to the side are two secure children’s bedrooms, each sleeping three children. All rooms are en-suite with running water and flush toilets. Mkombe’s House is entirely self-contained with its own dining room and lounge, a splash pool for younger ones alongside a larger swimming pool, and outside chill-out areas. Guests are looked after by dedicated staff and an in-house private chef. Meals are freshly prepared on-site after discussion with guests. We provide a baby-sitter where required.
HIGHLIGHTS: The best location in the northern Serengeti, close to the Mara River crossings. Great views from camp, excellent guides, walking opportunities in some seasons. Plenty of year-round resident game. Perfect combination with the private Kiba Point in the Selous, Serengeti Safari Camp, and particularly with Nduara Loliondo (where there is more flexibility and freedom for child-friendly activities than in national parks).
ACTIVITIES: Game drives, guided walks, bush picnics, and sundowners.
CHILD POLICY: There is no minimum age, however children must be at least 12 years old to participate in walking activities.
GETTING THERE: Regular scheduled flights from Arusha, Dar or Zanzibar to Kogatende Airstrip, which is then a 30-minute game drive to the house. You can also travel by road from our northern Serengeti Safari Camp campsites between July and October.
SEASONS: Good chance of Mara River crossings from July to October. Between November and March there is great resident game, birdlife, few people, and fabulous scenery.
OPEN: Year round except from mid-March to the end of May when Mkombe’s House Lamai usually closes for maintenance.
