Sausage Tree Camp
Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia

LOCATION: Deep in the Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia.
SETTING: The camp overlooks an expanse of narrow channels and low set reed islands teeming with game, with the magnificent Zambezi escarpment as the backdrop. Great sunset views! We're right at entrance of the renowned Chifungulu Channel for the best canoeing in Africa!
ACCOMMODATION: Well-destined, spacious, modern canvas tents furnished in luxurious fabrics. Expansive decks with private plunge pools and Zambezi River views are a signature of the camp. We have seven Tented Suites, and Kigelia House, our two-bedroom Family House that accommodates four guests and is perfect for families. All tented suites are permanent structures with cement floors, electricity, ceiling fans, and en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, flush toilets, and powerful inside and outside showers.
Please Note: Our smaller sister camp, Potato Bush, operates independently, yet is close enough to combine with Suasage Tree if needed to host a larger party.
HIGHLIGHTS: Guaranteed private vehicle and guide for each booking! Remote location with easy access, excellent range of safari activities, great guides, relaxed atmosphere, superb fishing (especially for Tigerfish).
ACTIVITIES: Sausage Tree Camp offers a wide range of safari activities including day and night game drives, walks, canoe trips, boat cruises, and fishing. With personalized guiding, our guests decide exactly what activity they would like to take and when. Elephant, hippo, and buffalo are seen in camp daily. Guests also have an extremely high chance of seeing lion, leopard, wild dogs, hyena, waterbuck, zebra, impala, bushbuck, and kudu.
FISHING: The Zambezi River is host to some of the most spectacular fresh water sport fishing in the world with plentiful Tigerfish (Hydrocynus vittatus, Latin for "striped river dog") and Tilapia amongst others. Sausage Tree Camp offers both spinning and fly fishing, both strictly catch and release in accordance with the principles of the National Park. The most sporting, and certainly the most fun, fish to catch is the famous Tigerfish. A relative of the infamous piranha, Tigerfish have large carnivorous teeth, can grow to 15kg/33lb (the camp record 11.3kg) and are renowned for their strength and spectacular "leaping out of the water" fighting performance. Fishing is succesful all year round, however the warmer months (September - December) are definitely the best time to catch Tigerfish. This is the breeding season when the fish are more active, feeding more regularly and are far more aggressive. The water level is typically lower and the visibility at its very best.
CHILD POLICY: We welcome children eight years and older at Sausage Tree; children must be at least 12 years old to participate in walking activities. Children 8-17 are accommodated at a reduced rate.
GETTING THERE: Regular and affordable scheduled flights operate to Jeki Airstrip from Lusaka (30min), South Luangwa and Livingstone, making Sausage Tree easy to add after a visit to Victoria Falls. International flights depart from Lusaka or via Johannesburg.
OPEN: April to November.
