Great Divide Bikepacking Fundraiser - Aug 2022

Starting on August 12th, Johann will start the first 1200 to 1400-mile leg of a solo bike-pack along the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR) from Banff, Canada to Wyoming. The second leg, hopefully in 2023 or 2024 will continue through Colorado and New Mexico to the Mexican border. (Total GDMBR from Banff to Mexico comprises 2750 miles / 4450 km of distance with over 200,000 ft / 60,000 m of uphill climbing). This endeavor is a challenge, and also, a fundraiser for a very worthy cause, the Zambian Carnivore Programme. 100% of your donations will go directly to ZCP to support their conservation efforts.

About Zambian Carnivore Programme (ZCP):
ZCP is a registered 501c3 non-profit focusing on conserving large carnivores and the ecosystems they reside in through science, action on the ground and local leadership. Effective Conservation Science relies on accurate and current data to guide and inform management actions. Consequently, research and monitoring play a fundamental role and ZCP is 100% field-based, with a full-time year-round research presence in their study sites. Conservation Action includes human-wildlife conflicts, bushmeat and anti-snaring, poaching, disease mitigation and improving large landscape connectivity. For conservation to be successful, local communities have to be effectively involved and Conservation Capacity therefore centers around Conservation Clubs, Citizen Science, Community Conservation, empowering Women in Wildlife Conservation and training the next generation of Conservation Biologists and Veterinarians. 100% of your donation will go directly to ZCP to support their conservation efforts.
Last year's fundraising ride along the Arizona Trail generated funds for ZCP that were used to purchase uniforms for some of their field team members as well as to purchase and deploy a wild dog GPS/Sat collars (see images below).

About Great Divide Mountain Bike Route:
Considered the longest off-pavement route in the world, the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR) is North America's premier off-pavement cycling route, crisscrossing the Continental Divide in southern Canada and the USA. This route is defined by the word "remote". Its remoteness equates with spectacular terrain and scenery. The entire route is basically dirt-road and mountain-pass riding every day. In total, it has over 200,000 ft / 60,000 m of elevation gain.
We have been overwhelmed with gratitude by the support you have shown us in our fundraising efforts for Africa.
