Starting on June 17th, Johann will start the ca.1400-mile leg of a solo bike-pack along the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR) from the Mexican Border through New Mexico and Colorado to Wamsutter, Wyoming. Last year I successfully did the first leg from Banff, Canada to Wamsutter. To avoid mud season in New Mexico and allow maximum time for the snow to melt in high passes in Colorado, I'm starting from the south this year and will head north to the spot in Wyoming where I finished last year. (Total GDMBR from Banff to Mexico comprises 2750 miles / 4450 km of distance with over 200,000 ft / 60,000 m of uphill climbing).

 

This endeavor is a challenge, and also, a fundraiser for a very worthy cause, the Zambian Carnivore Programme. 100% of your donations will go directly to ZCP to support their conservation efforts. With your generous help, we raised $7,450 last year, that was generously matched by African Bush Camps. Generated funds for ZCP that were used to purchase uniforms for some of their field team members, purchase and deploy a lion GPS/Sat collar and also to set up two tents for remote field work in Kafue National Park. Considered the longest off-pavement route in the world, the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR) is North America's premier off-pavement cycling route, crisscrossing the Continental Divide 32 times in southern Canada and the USA. This route is defined by the word "remote". Its remoteness equates with spectacular terrain and scenery. The entire route is basically dirt-road and mountain-pass riding every day. In total, it has over 200,000 ft / 60,000 m of elevation gain.
