Icyayi Songa Lodge - Nyungwe




Icyayi Songa Lodge offers an exclusive collection of 20 elegant luxury suites, with the first 7 soon to be open to guests from May 2026. Nestled at the edge of Nyungwe Forest National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the lodge is embraced by sweeping tea plantations and rolling hills.
LOCATION: Nyungwe is the largest protected track of Afro-Montane forest left in Africa and is host to a variety of species including chimpanzees. It straddles the watershed between the basin of the Congo River to the west and the basin of the river Nile to the east. The park contains 13 primate species (25% of Africa's total), more than 300 bird species including 30 Albertine Rift endemics, 1068 plant species, 85 mammal species, 32 amphibian and 38 reptile species.
ACCOMMODATION: Luxury Suites (6 units): These elegant standalone units feature either a plush double bed or twin bed, ensuite bathrooms, private fire place and serene tea plantation & forest views. One Family Luxury Villa with 2 rooms: A spacious, shared-roof villa with two private double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, shared dining space, cozy living room, fireplace & private balconies.
HIGHLIGHTS: Besides varied activities including trekking with Chimpanzees, Nyungwe offers stunning landscapes and the opportunity to relax and enjoy the pristine environment.
ACTIVITIES: Trekking with Chimpanzees is an obvious highlight, but there are many other activity options including the Nyungwe Canopy Walkway, one of the longest Ziplines in Africa, forest walks and lodge activities like Cycling, Crop to Cup Tea Experience. (Tea picking) and Archery.
CHILD POLICY: Children ages 12 years and above are considered adults. Children 12 years and below may book our rollaway bed at a fixed net rate. Children aged 3 years and under may stay at the lodge free of charge. However, they must be accompanied by a nanny if left unattended. Nanny services are available upon request at an additional cost.
GETTING THERE: 30 min helicopter flight from Kigali, or a ca. 6-7hr drive (with stops along the way). Driving to/from Volcanoes National Park area is around 6 hours along an incredibly scenic route with stunning views of Lake Kivu. Similarly to/from Akagera National Park in the East.
