Laba Fanjove Private Island

LOCATION: Off the coast of Tanzania and nestled beneath one of the last remaining 19th-century German-built lighthouses, Fanjove is the smallest of six islands in the stunning Songo Songo Archipelago, one of Africa’s most beautiful and unique island chains.

SETTING: Experience your own private island, adorned with swaying coconut palms and framed by pristine sandy beaches. Swim in crystal-clear turquoise waters, explore vibrant coral reefs, and relax in a secluded bay at the foot of the historic lighthouse.

ACCOMMODATION:  Laba Fanjove has 18 FIT accommodations: 12 Beach Villas, 2 Family Beach Villas, 2 Coral Villas and a 2-bedroom Coral Manor. Each room can accommodate two or three people. Each ca. 1,300 sq foot villa faces the beach and ocean, and is built using natural, local materials (teak flooring from Tanzanian plantations, traditional makuti roofs, walls in local coral stone, doors carved by Zanzibar craftsmen, interior walls in palm and Janvi). All bathrooms feature an indoor shower and an open-air shower. All beds can be converted to double or twin and an extra bed for a child can be added. Bed linen, bathrobes and bathroom amenities are all organic.

HIGHLIGHTS: I was impressed by the sheer remoteness and exclusivity with no-one else sharing Laba Fanjove's many dive and snorkeling sites. Incredibly warm staff lovingly attend to every detail and the organic cuisine was fresh and expertly prepared by a chef who trained in France under a Michelin starred chef. Snorkeling with dolphins!

ACTIVITIES: Activities included in the rates: marine safari (dolphins), snorkeling by boat and from the beach, dhow sailing, sea kayaks and paddle boards, fitness center with modern equipment, kid‘s club, bird watching, Fanjove nature trail. Optional activities at an extra cost include various Laba Fanjove Spa treatments, full day excursions to Mafia Island (swimming, snorkeling with whale sharks (July to November depending on the weather), whale watching (July to October), fishing (catch & release) on request. Please contact Reservations Team for a tailor-made fishing trip quote. Padi Diving Centre to explore Laba Fanjove's varied dive sites on a 7 mile reef.
