Laba Mama Simba Lodge - Arusha

LOCATION:  In the heart of North Dolly, a vast 1,700-acre conservancy without interior fences.

SETTING: Sweeping views of Mt. Meru, complemented by a surrounding wild landscape filled with free-roaming eland, zebras, wildebeest, kudu, impala, Thomson's gazelle, and Grant's gazelle. There are no large predators, so the animals can be viewed on foot.

ACCOMMODATION:  

  • 6 Individual Garden Cottages: 750 sq ft. can be configured as double or twin, Bedroom - Living room with fireplace - Bathroom (bathtub, shower), Terrace (dining area, sunbeds)

  • 1 Master Suite (in the main building): 800 sq ft. Bedroom - Living room with fireplace - Bathroom (bathtub, shower). Small terrace with view of Mount Meru

  • 1 Pool Room (in the main building): 250 sq ft. Bathroom with shower.

  • 1 Garden Room (in the main building): 250 sq ft.. Bathroom with shower

Common amenities for all categories: mini bar, hairdryer, safe, fans, Healing Earth organic care products, international and USB electrical outlets.

Family-friendly rooms:

  • Thanks to their proximity, the Garden Room and the Pool Room offer a perfect option for a family stay.

  • Extra bed: a single bed for a child can be added to the parents' room in the Garden Cottage and the Master Suite.

HIGHLIGHTS: Flights often arrive in evening at JRO. I loved arriving at night after a short 30 min transfer, then walking up to birdsong, surrounded by wildlife and with gorgeous Mt. Meru views. Best way to start a safari! (I recommend considering 2nts here at start)

ACTIVITIES: Walking safari with a Maasai guide on Laba Mama Simba lands: the lodge is a 1,700-acre property without fences. It is the only place in Arusha where elands, zebras, wildebeest, kudus, impalas, Thomson's gazelles, and Grant's gazelles graze freely in the wild bush.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Scenic Helicopter Flight over Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in an Airbus H125.
    Departure airport: Dolly, located 10 minutes from Laba Mama Simba (transfers included). Duration: 2 hours.
    Optional landing at Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. Both are possible in the same flight. Highlights: glaciers, crater, and Kilimanjaro summits from the air. Flyover of Mount Meru and Arusha National Park.

  • Horseback Riding: $120 per person (shared basis). A 2-hour ride through the wilderness of Dolly Estate, home to Laba Mama Simba Lodge. As guests explore the estate on horseback, they may encounter wildlife mentioned, while admiring a rich variety of birds.

  • Day safari in Tarangire National Park with private driver/vehicle and picnic. It takes about 2.5 hours to reach the park.

  • Golf & Polo 10 minutes from the Lodge.

CHILD POLICY:  No minimum age for children. Child is up to 15. Adult is of or above 16.

One child can be hosted in parents/adults room only at Garden Cottages and in Master Suite.

  • Young children till 6 years old: free of charge

  • 2 adults (full adult rate) + max 1 child free of charge in the same room (Cottage & Master).

  • 1 adult (full adult rate) + 1 child ( child rate =50%) in the same Suite

  • From 16 years plus , 1 guest on his own in a room is permitted: full adult rate & single supplement conditions apply.

  • One adult (of or above 16 years) with one or two other children in the same room: adult rate / 2nd & 3rd child: child rate applies / Max 3 children per room and exclusively in Cottage or Master.

  • Family Special : Garden + pool bedrooms: when a family books those 2 rooms children under 16 are allowed in one room. Parents room (garden) rate remains the same and children room (pool) rates and conditions are: 1 children in a pool room =  adult rate. 2 children = -50% for each child 

GETTING THERE: 35 minute road transfer from Kilimanjaro Airport. It takes approximately 1 hour from Arusha Airport. For private flights, the Dolly runway is 10 minutes away.
